Equipment and systems used to control and eradicate the release of potentially dangerous substances—such as gases and particulate matter—into the atmosphere, and surrounding environment are collectively referred to as "air pollution control equipment." Scrubbers, air filters, incinerators, biofilters, cyclones, and other types of air pollution control equipment are used in industrial applications to remove pollutants.
These controls can be divided into two categories: those that limit the emissions of acidic gases and those that limit the quantity of particulate matter that escapes into the environment.
Further, researches have shown that the total levels of emissions for various pollutants decreased after the installation of these control devices, despite the fact that they are sophisticated.
